Ismail gained valuable experience in management, sales & marketing starting at Procter & Gamble and PricewaterhouseCoopers, which he later leveraged on behalf of local market FMCG brands. He later joined the European Commission, the EU's Industrial Development Programme for Egypt, with responsibility for development of industrial sector (he successfully designed and executed business development plans for 900 (nine hundred) mid to large sized manufacturers).

Headhunted by Tetra Pak Group to develop both a sustainability platform & recycling market in Egypt and to support the commercial team, Ismail launched the sales operation of a new Juice brand, and was responsible for several high-profile environmental initiatives including Recycling rate calculation model and the large-scale deployment of FSC certified packages throughout local markets, and North Africa.

Ismail also managed the Environment advocacy program for Tetra Pak in Egypt, North Africa & Nigeria, partnering with the Egyptian government on various projects aimed at finding means to safely implement EPR practices.

First strategy consultancy project Ismail initiated and took ownership of a customer’s strategic decision to invest in the Egyptian tissue market. Ismail introduced the idea, directed the investment and business strategy & studies, that resulted in the creation of WHITE Tissues factory & brand, gaining 8% market share with an EGP 220m (USD 24m) turnover (before currency floating in 2016) in under 24 months.
